12 Minutes • 12 Drills • 12 Days

We'll focus on small, smart changes to get you there.

Get your self 12 Balls in a basket or bucket so you can drill efficiently without having to chase around one or two balls. There are 5 important shots you'll need to focus on and they are the first five shots in a game. They are the serve, the return, the third shot, the fourth shot and you can guess the fifth shot. Of course there are many more fun and challenging shots, but let's start with the serve.

Congratulations on starting your journey towards becoming a better pickleball player. For every drill allow 15 minutes. Strive for 12 good minutes on that drill such as serving. Do this drill for 12 minutes each day for 12 days and get ready to amaze everyone on your final day. The 12 drill categories we will be focusing on are (serves, returns, third, fourth, fifth, dink, defense, offense, drills, specialty shots, groundstrokes, and strategy).

The Serve

The serve you can practice with a partner or alone. Their is a hierarchy to serving.  First is consistency, next is depth, then power, spin and accuracy. Choose them in order until you have a 80 - 90% success rate. Set out target zones (cones or water bottles) near the baseline or at sharp angles and adjust your serves giving yourself fair margins for errors.

The Return

If you have a partner, have them watch you serve and if they see anything that you can improve,  be open to their suggestions.

Your main goal is to return deep, which is landing in the back court or the area 4-5 feet inside the baseline. This will keep the opponent back  giving them less time to make their way to the kitchen and you more time to get there.

The Third Shot (drop or drive)

The third shot drop in the past was performed by the pros most of the time.

As the game has progressed, shot selection has changed.

The Fourth

The goal of the fourth shot is to keep your opponents back at the baseline..

Target their feet as they try to move in.

The Fifth Shot (drop)

The fifth shot drop now is the preferred shot performed by the pros and is done most of the time to work their way to the kitchen..

As the game has progressed, shot selection has changed.
